There are several means in which to waterproof a substrate, the use of a clear sealer/waterproofing or the use of a elastomer product.

When waterproofing there may be several factors to consider before agreeing on a product, first of all life of the products waterproofing abilities, how it waterproofs, and then compatibility.

If you would like to waterproof a building, but retain its present color (eg: colored block), a clear emulsion waterproofing may be the best answer but not always possible.

If you have a 15 year old building that is settling and has cracks all through it, then a complete caulking and elastomer coating would be the best choice.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If your planning to seal your building, a normal exterior paint is not the right choice but rather a breathable elastomer coating is and we would recommend hiring a professional.

A thorough two to three coats without cracking or pin-holing will be necessary to achieve the correct results.
