Water and Sandblasting
Water blasting
is another method of pressure cleaning, but suited more towards heavy-duty
cleaning and removal processes. Water blasting uses are generally commercial.
Its strengths are apparent when maintenance painting (on a surface)
has been prolonged and the surface has started to peel and blister or
the paint has simply failed due to incorrect sealing or paint applications.
This cleaning method incorporates a 3500 – 5000 psi-pressure washer
with a few special attachments. Method (1) is a turbo tip which rotates
a stream of water through the nozzle creating a more concentrated cleaning
action and thus will strip the surface of most flaking rust, the surface
may then be painted with a surface tolerant paint or further cleaned
with blasting or hydro blasting sand. Method (2) is to add silica sand
to the water at the tip of the applicator nozzle.
